Chubby King, 85, of Damascus, Maryland, died Monday March 11, 2013 at his residence, with his family by his side.|
Born March 31, 1927 in Damascus, MD he was the son of the late Harvey W. "Buck" and Pauline King. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Dorothy Lillian King in 1996.
Chubby is survived by his daughter Dorothy Ann Anderson and husband Robert "Bob" of Mt. Airy, MD and his son F. Robert "Bobby" King and wife Cindy of Florida and Damascus, MD. He has three grandchildren Heidi Bowman and husband David of Walkersville, MD, Curtis Anderson and wife Mary of Jefferson, MD and Danny King and Sarah Bennett of Damascus, MD. He has eight great grandchildren Brittany and Bryan Bowman of Walkersville, MD, Dalton, Mallory, and Faith Anderson of Jefferson, MD and Dylan, Austin, and Gavin King from Damascus. He is also survived by his great granddaughters finance' Jessie Prater.
Chubby was preceded in death by two sisters Violet Frizzell and Marjorie 'Bootie" Barber.
Chubby worked as a farm hand until the farm was sold. He went to work in 1960 for Montgomery County Road Department at Seven Locks and he retired from Colesville Depot in 1986. He sold trophies for The Larry Beck Co. after his retirement until the time of his death.
Chubby is a Life Member of the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Dept., Inc. He joined the department on June 5, 1946 and has completed 66 years of service with that company. He has served on and chaired many committees like the Carnival, Dance, Advertising, Entertainment, Carnival Program Book, Fireman of the Year to name a few. He was Treasurer from 1979-82. He was a delegate of the Montgomery County Fire /Rescue Assoc., Montgomery County Fire Board, MD State Firemans Assoc., Frederick County Ambulance Assoc., and MD State Ambulance Association. He was Vice President of the Montgomery County Fire/ Rescue in 1975-76 and President in 1976-77, and a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church, Damascus.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m., Friday March 15, at Molesworth-Williams P.A. Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Rd., Damascus, MD 20872. Funeral services will be held on 11:00 a.m., Saturday March 16, at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus, Maryland. The Rev. Dr. Eliezer Valentin- Castanon, pastor of Mountain View United Methodist Church, along with Damascus and Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Departments, Inc., will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Curtis Anderson and Danny King, great grand- sons, Bryan Bowman and Dalton Anderson, and Ed Flynn and Dave Pleasants. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Damascus.
