John Thomas "Sonny" Ott, Sr., age 80, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. John was born on April 17, 1932 at home in Emmitsburg and was the son of the late Charles C. and Virginia (Baugher) Ott. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret Eyler Ott.|
John was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Emmitsburg; the VFW Post 6658 and the American Legion Post 121, all of Emmitsburg.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He worked as a security guard for the National Fire Academy and retired from the Frederick County Board of Education as a custodian. He enjoyed delivering flowers for Flowers for You in Emmitsburg. Sonny loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are children: John T. Ott, Jr. and wife Sharon, of Emmitsburg; Steven A. Ott and wife Susan, of Emmitsburg; and Wanda D. Koontz and husband Mark, of Fairfield, PA; grandchildren: Ryan Ott and wife Jess, Cody Ott, and Payton Koontz; great-grandchildren, Evan and Brendan Ott; brother, Richard A. Ott of Thurmont; sister, Patricia Glass of Dover, DE; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter Renee Lynne Ott, and by brothers, Robert and Francis Ott.
A prayer memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow, with military honors, in New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
