Mr.  John Wing Allingham Obituary
Mr. John Wing Allingham, 93, of Frederick and formerly of Bethesda, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born January 20, 1920 in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late John and Clotilde Martinez de los Rios Allingham. He was the hus- band of Patricia Clarke Allingham, his wife of 68 years.


Mr. Allingham served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, seeing action in the South Pacific. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and his master's degree at Cal Tech and continued to work towards his doctorate at George Washington University. He began his career as a geologist and geo-physicist in Southern California, then Michigan, Wisconsin and Washington D.C. where he was employed with the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of the Interior, for 38 years, retiring in 1979. He also worked for six years as an "on loan" staff scientist with NASA.


Following retirement he worked as a private consultant. He was a 56-year member of St. David's Episcopal Church in the District of Columbia and a member of the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association of Frederick and Gettysburg as a glider and power pilot. He enjoyed gar- dening, raising roses, bee- keeping, world travelling and astronomy.


In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Sheila Bushnell and husband Ronald of Frederick; three grandchildren, Kevin R. Ward and wife Alexis of Lovettsville, VA; Kristen Ann Harley and husband Thomas, and Nicholas Allingham, all of Frederick; and four great- grandchildren, Patrick and Gawyn Ward and Joshua and Gracie Harley.


He was preceded in death by a son, James M. Allingham in 2003 and two brothers, Richard and Thomas Allingham.


A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at Chapel Lutheran Church, Daysville Rd., near Libertytown, with Rev. Christopher Litton, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. There will be no public visitation.
