Bessie V. Smith, 80, of Skunk Hollow Rd., Sabillasville, MD passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at St. Catherine's Nursing Center of Emmitsburg, MD. She was a breast cancer survivor.|
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hamilton Smith on April 5, 2006.
Born February 6, 1933 in Clear Spring, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. & Minerva I. (Householder) Cosgrove.
She was a graduate of Smithsburg High School & Victor Cullen Nursing School with a LPN degree.
She was employed by the State of Maryland for 30 years at the Victor Cullen Center of Sabillasville.
She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Sabillasville.
She is survived by two daughters Brenda E. Smith of Sabillasville and Janet R. Yount of Walkersville; two sisters Pearl Heffner and Dorothy Fishack both of Hagerstown, one sister-in-law Gladys Fitz of Waynesboro, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son Roger C. Smith, two sisters Pauline Pryor & Mary Anna Powell and seven brothers Harry, C. Elwood, Harold, James, Earl, Paul & John Cosgrove.
Services will be held Saturday July 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg, MD 21783 with Pastor Barry L. Taylor & Pastor Al Deal officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery Cascade, MD. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with the doors open at the funeral home at 9 a.m. for the convenience of the public.
