Norman Anthony Joseph Showers Obituary
Norman Anthony Joseph Showers passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, MD.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on January 29, 1922, he was the eldest son of the late Norbert Anthony Joseph Showers and Marian Lambert Showers, and is predeceased by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Showers.

Norman is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Gladys A. Cline Showers; his sister Joyce A. Elliott and brother- in-law Thomas Elliott of Oceanside, California; his devoted niece Katherine Elliott, of Eldersburg, MD; as well as cherished friends Dave and Joy Clem of Adamstown, MD; and Brian Brill, M.D. of Parkersburg, WV.

Norman proudly served in the Canadian Air Force during WWII and was awarded the France and Germany Star, the 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945 with the Oak Leaf Emblem by the Veterans Affairs Canada. He was a member of the American Legion in Mt. Airy, MD and the Elks Lodge of Frederick, MD. Norman had an exceptional mechanical apptitude and was a self- taught engineer. He worked for Energy Control as a Combustion Control Instrument technician as well as for Solarex Energy as Chief Engineer. He had a love of steam engines and repaired model steam trains as a hobby. Norman had a special gift of being able to design, engineer and construct anything he put his mind to whether in wood, metal or plastic.

He designed and built the Pheasant Ridge Mobile Home Park in Mt. Airy, MD; complete with it's own water treatment plant. He owned and operated a plastic fabricating business as well as building a good deal of the furniture in his home. Norman loved to fly and completely refurbished his Cessna airplane. He was also musically inclined and played the trumpet and the organ, and loved to dance. In recent years, Norman was very involved in working with Major General Boyd M. Cook Veteran's Memorial Foundation, Inc.


Pastor Ron Reaves will conduct funeral services at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, 107 West Main Street, Middletown, MD on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11 AM.
