Jean Noll Obituary

Jean Noll, 82, of Frederick, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital from complications due to heart failure.

Born Jean Marie McCormack to James J. and Anna McCormack on Farr Street in Scranton, Pa., on March 12, 1928, Jean was the youngest of four children.

Early in her career at Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania, she met Joseph Henry Noll. On Dec. 1, 1951, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Scranton, they married.

She graduated from Marywood College, majoring in education and received her Master's of Library Science degree from Misericordia University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Jean worked and resided in Peckville, Pa., with her family. She held the position of school librarian at Valley View Elementary School until her retirement and was beloved by her students, peers and the community for her passion for education and children.

An active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, she gave much to her community and friends. She belonged to the teachers union as well as several other trade and alumni associations. Jean loved the pursuit of knowledge and international travel, visiting Rome, Dublin and the Carribean to name but a few of her varied destinations. Her travels through schools, colleges, universities, states and continents with a ready smile, a gleam in her eye and a quick wit was her greatest pleasure. Passing on the love of learning to her children and students was her greatest legacy.

Jean is survived by her children, daughter, Mary Theresa Noll of Annandale, Va.; daughter, Geri Cherubim of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; son, Joseph and his wife, Debbie Pitoniak Noll, of Puyallup, Wash.; and daughters, Regina Beals and Anne Martin, both of Blandon, Pa. Her four granddaughters are Vanessa Monahan, Andrea Hanson, Nicole Noll and Juliet Beals. Her three grandsons are Victor Cherubim, Collin Cherubim and Jason Noll. On Jan. 21, 2010, Jean celebrated the birth of her first great-grandson, Marcus Christopher Monahan. Jean was very loved by her nephews, James McCormack, Thomas McCormack and William Noll; as well as by her nieces, MaryClaire Coleman, Joyce McCormack Ravinskas, Kathy Popien, Teresa Frable, Barbara Noll and Cheryl Dando, with whom she shared many special events and celebrations. Shamrock, her cat, resides in Blandon with her daughter, Regina, and granddaughter, Juliet.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joseph H. Noll, who died April 12, 1998. Jean also survived the passage of her brothers, Paul McCormack and James McCormack; and her sister, Angela McCormack.

Viewing and remembrance will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, at James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, Pa.; 570-489-6622. A liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, by Monsignor Madus of Sacred Heart of Jesus at the Margotta Funeral Home

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore, Pa.
