Mr. Robert Day Murray, age 89, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at his home in Monrovia, Md. He was husband of the late Sherley Brandenburg Murray.|
Born February 27, 1924 in Mount Airy, Md. he was a son of the late Norman T. and Ada Lea Day Murray.
Bob was a 1940 Graduate of Mount Airy High School. He entered the U.S. Army in March 3, 1943, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and in Central Europe, and received his honorable discharge December 1, 1945. He Married his late wife Sherley B. Murray and later joined his father in the milk hauling business. When he retired from the milk hauling business, for a time he delivered auto parts; and finally worked at Green Valley Garage.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 171, Damascus, Maryland.
He is survived by a sister Jane Haugh, and husband Maurice, of Franklin, Tennessee; Brother Ronald Murray, and wife Penny, of Rochester, Minnesota; sister-in-law Frances Sutherland of Bolder Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Sherley he is preceded in death by a brother Norman Murray, Jr.
Friends may call at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md. 20872, Wednesday, December 18, from 5 p.m. until memorial services begin at 7 p.m.
American Legion Post 171, Damascus will hold post everlasting services at 7 p.m. Memorial services will follow with Pastor Merle Lyles officiating.
Private inurnment will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy.
