Mr. Thomas Edward Joy, 87, of Hampstead, NC and formerly of Libertytown, MD, died on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice House, in Wilmington, NC. He was the loving husband of Fay Snyder Joy. |
Born in Libertytown on May 7, 1926, he was a son of the late John Thomas Joy and Katherine Gardner Summers
Mr. Joy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. He was retired from National Institute of Health as a Public Relations photographer. He was a member of the VFW in Frederick, MD, where he was a past commander.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Ryan E. Joy, of Jacksonville, NC, Mitzi Joy Sacks and husband Michael, of Voorhees, NJ and Nicole Joy and partner William Kennedy, of Wilmington, NC, grandson, Nathan Sacks, half brother, Thomas Joy and half sister, Beverly Prince, both of Ellicott City, MD, also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Joy brother, Jack Joy and his wife Lillian "Dutch" Joy and half sister Vicky Joy.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, December 23, 2013, from the funeral home. The Rev. Jerry M. Cline, will officiate. Interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Libertytown.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
