George Ellis Catron, Age 89, passed in his sleep, in the early hours of March 20th after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.|
Mr. Catron was born August 25, 1924 in Lee County, Virginia deep in Appalachia. He served in the Submarine service in the Pacific during WWII.
Along with his new bride Madeline, they settled in Washington, D.C. after the war where he was one of the 30 original television engineers for WTOP-TV Channel 9 in Washington. He retired after 41 years of employment. Upon his wife's death he moved to Ijamsville, Maryland to be with his son Philip and his family. As the Parkinson's took its toll, he moved to Edenton Retirement Community in 2012 where he stayed until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline P. Catron and is survived by 3 children, Michael, Philip and Katrina in addition to 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
A memorial service is planned for March 28th at 11:00 AM at the Damascus Road Community Church located at 12826 Old National Pike Mt. Airy, MD 21771. The family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army of Frederick, P.O. Box 1003, Frederick, MD 21702 or the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 in lieu of flowers.
