Kenneth W. Arter Obituary
Kenneth W. Arter, 94, of Smithsburg MD died April 24, 2014 in Hagerstown, MD. He was the husband of the late Marie Arter who died in 1995, his wife of 54 years. He was born in 1920 in Silver Run, MD to the late Edgar and Carrie Arter of Littlestown, PA. He enlisted in the Army in 1938 and married on December 7, 1941 on the day of his discharge, re-enlisted when war was declared. He proudly served his country in the Eurpoean theatre campaign of the war on D-DAY and beyond. Mr. Arter was a proud member of the 29th division 115th infantry Co. H. After the war was over he came back to Maryland to take up the profession of carpentry. He was a very successful business owner having built many homes in MD, VA, Metro area. He was a member of MARANATHA FLIGHTS INTERNATIONAL. He is survived by Jay Arter, Judi Rogers, and Barry Arter, and spouses and children and grandchildren. A late memorial service was held Sunday, June 22, 2014 in his honor at the old Smithsburg Cider Mill, next to Ingrams Mill (Circa 1810) that he restored.
