Helen DeGrange Obituary

Helen Marie DeGrange, 77, of Frederick, passed away on November 3, 2015 at her home with her family by her side after her battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was the wife of 60 years to Floydie Lee DeGrange.

Born on January 8, 1938 in Poolesville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Annie (Harrison) Whisman. Helen was the 5th of 10 children. Helen was a homemaker raising her and her husband's four children. She volunteered with Urbana Volunteer Fire Company and as a member of the Fire Police. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed watching her soap opera love stories on TV. Helen was a huge sports fan! She loved Nascar with her favorite being Jeff Gordon. Her favorite teams were the Baltimore Orioles, the Washington Redskins and the Washington Capitals.

Helen is survived by her husband Floydie, and her four children, Roy Westley DeGrange Sr. and wife Carol, Jerry Lee DeGrange, Susan Marie Murray and husband John, and Rebecca Louise Massagee and husband Randy; grandchildren, Roy DeGrange Jr., Ryan DeGrange, Matthew DeGrange, John DeGrange, Jason Horton, Christopher Horton, Matthew Horton and Erik Jones; eight great grandchildren; and her five siblings, Francis Johnson, Albert Whisman, Nancy Smith, Howard Whisman and Henry Whisman; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph DeGrange and four brothers, Frank Whisman, Carl Whisman, Wayne Whisman and David Whisman.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Monday, November 9th at the funeral home. Interment will be in Clustered Spires Cemetery.

My husband and I are sad to hear about Helens passing. She will be greatly missed. I Linda, have known her since I was about the age of 16 with my dad and Mr Degrange being in the Urbana Fire Department. She was a very sweet and Kind woman.
