FRANCES JONES Obituary

Frances, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2014. She was born on March 11, 1930, in Porterville, CA to Lovell and Genevieve Wilson. Fran and her two sisters, MaryLou Sommer and Margaret "Dickie" Wilson grew up on the family dairy farm in Porterville. She graduated from Porterville High, moving on to the local Junior College and completed her degree in education from San Jose State University. During her college years and beyond, she was a pledged and active member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Chi Omega sororities. Her legacy will live on through the many students she taught during her career as a teacher with Clovis Unified School District. Fran pioneered the Young Expectant Mother (YEM) program and in teaching these young women, she also made many lifelong friends. She is survived by her husband Phillip; son Scott and his wife Pam; several nieces and nephews and their families; along with a multitude of friends that she met throughout her life. Our family is thankful for the wonderful care she received during her stay at Green Gables Care Home. We would also like to thank Optimal Hospice for their care and guidance. A Celebration of Life will be held for Fran at the Clovis Memorial Building, 808 4th St., Clovis, CA on Friday, July 11, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. It is the families wishes that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the donor's charity of choice.

I was a student of Mrs. Jones in 1974 at YEMS. She made such a difference in my life. I'm so sorry I cannot tell her in person.RIP lovely lady!

Mrs. Jones was a significant person in my life. Her insistence and encouragement that I was special made me believe I could succeed at anything I set my mind to do. During my attendance at YEMS she made me promise that after my, now 30 year old, son was born that I return to CHS and graduate on "their terms". Thirty years ago, that was a very tough goal for a shy 16 year old girl to achieve. Because of her encouragement and (sometimes tough) Iove I proudly walked with my graduating class in 1985. I keep the graduation card she gave me on my dresser and read it often. The short paragraph of continued belief in my capabilities and assured confidence in my future has empowered my confidence throughout decades. Her personal investment in me and many many other of her students truly made a difference. God Bless the Jones Family - Much love to you all. ??

Mrs. Jones was a caring and wonderful teacher. I was in her class in 1976. She gave me encouragement as a young mother. I graduated mid year. Today my son is 37 and a vice president of an local engineering firm. She taught me many valuable lessons in that class and I'm still using them today. What wonderful memories! Thank You Mrs. Jones for everything. God Bless you and your family.
