KENNEDY, LAVON - Fresno  
LaVon was born on January 10, 1916, at home in a farmhouse in Westgate, IA. LaVon went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 20, 2015, in Fresno, CA, at the age of 99. Wayne and LaVon were married in 1942, in Kansas City, MO during army enlistment. The remaining commitment to the United States Army was at Camp Roberts and they lived in Paso Robles. Their daughter Ann was born there and they moved to Funston Army Housing in Fresno. LaVon was a stay at home mother involved in Church and PTA while raising their daughter in a Fresno home. Wayne worked in the electrial trade, then 20 years at Fresno City Hall as electrical inspector. LaVon and Wayne were avid rockhounds, and traveled the deserts and mountains. LaVon did volunteer work at Community Hospital and sat as a grand jury member from 1976 to 1977. She golfed and bowled. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Kennedy, in 2000; and her only sister, Blanche Gurtin, of Fresno, CA. LaVon is survived by her only daughter, Ann Williams; one grandson, Paul Williams and his wife Jessica; and three great-grandchildren, Linnea, August, and Warren, of Sunnyvale, CA. She was laid to rest next to her husband and mother at a private family service at Fresno Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to donor's favorite charity. MARTIN, DORMAN  
Retired Fresno Police Sergeant, Dorman Carl Martin, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, in Fresno, CA, at the age of 81. Dorman was born on July 6, 1933, in Eufaula, OK, to John Marion Martin and Stella (Brassart) Martin. The family moved to Fresno, CA, around 1940. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951, before serving in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. He subsequently attended California State University, Fresno, from 1956 to 1961, where he was an accomplished player on the baseball team. In 1961, Dorman joined the Fresno Police Department. For 22 years, Dorman served the citizens of Fresno as a police officer. He retired from the police department in 1983. He continued to serve the community with the United States Marshals Service at the Federal Court from 1984 to 2000. Dorman was a skilled hunter and avid fisherman and shared his love of the outdoors with all who knew him. He hunted and fished throughout the western United States but particularly enjoyed fishing at Pine Flat Lake, Lake McClure, and New Melones Lake. He loved to hunt in Northern California and Colorado. Though an intensively private, proud man, those who knew him well understood him to have a kind and generous heart. The people he loved during his lifetime remained dear to him even if he had not been able to keep in touch with them. He kept and cherished every letter and photograph he received from his many friends and family over the years. He is survived by many friends and family, including his brother, John Kenneth Martin; his sister-in-law, Nancy Martin, from Friant, CA; his nephew, Douglas Dorman Martin and his wife Jeannie, and their two daughters from Capitola, CA; his niece Janis (Martin) McCaleb and her husband David, and their two daughters from Scotts Valley, CA; and his aunt, Jessie (Brassart) Gallaher of Fresno, CA. A Memorial Service will be held at Friant Foothill Bible Church, 17836 Friant Road, Suite E, Friant, CA, 93626, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorman's life. McCOY, MARY ANN  
Mary Ann Boykins McCoy departed this life on Monday, March 23, 2015, in Fresno, CA, at the age 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.B. McCoy. She leaves to cherish her memories with her brother, Early J. Boykins; sister, Susie A. Clark, both of Wichita, KS; four sons, Willis E. Phillips and his wife Rae of Wichita, KS, Reverend Paul McCoy, Jeffrey McCoy, and Olandes McCoy and his wife Leslie, all of Fresno, CA; one daughter, Evelyn Hurd of Fresno, CA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Funeral Home on Monday, March 30, 2015, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at New Light for New Life Church of God on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens immediately following the Funeral Service.

MERRILL, GITTA MARIA  
Gitta Maria Merrill was born on November 5, 1957, to Ludwig and Maria Dullinger in Ridgewood (Brooklyn) NY. Gitta attended both Catholic and German schools through high school. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in August of 1975. Upon graduation, she went to work for the International Office of Bank of America in Manhattan, NY. She worked at Bank of America unyil 1990, when she left the bank to prepare for entrance to San Joaquin College of Law. She completed law school and graduated on May 27, 1995. Gitta passed the California Bar later that year. She joined the Fresno County Public Defender on January 16, 1996, and worked until August 14, 1998. She aggressively defended her clients. She left the Public Defender's office to join the staff of Hanna Brophy, a Workers compensation Defense Firm. She retired from Hanna Brophy as a partner on September 30, 2013. A Graveside Service will be held at Clovis Cemetery, at Villa and Herndon, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.

NAITO, TOM TADASHI - Madera  
Tom Tadashi Naito passed away at home on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at the age of 87. He was born in Madera, CA, on April 19, 1927, the eldest son of Eisaku and Tomo Naito. Tom attended Alpha Elementary School and Madera High School. At the outbreak of World War II, he and his family were interned at Jerome Relocation Center in Arkansas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and upon his return from the service, began farming in Madera, CA. During his 50 plus years as a farmer, he grew cotton, almonds, raisins and wine grapes. Tom is survived by his wife, Grace Tomoko; sons Michael, and Scotty and his wife Emily; brothers, Ken and his wife Etsuko, Henry and his wife Yuko, and Dick and his wife Mitzi; sisters, Emiko Naito and Ayako Renge; grandson Akio; and nieces, Gail Renge, Julie Naito, Michelle Naito, and Lisa Naito. A Viewing will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Monday, April 6, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the United Japanese Christian Church (UJCC), 136 N. Betty Palumbo was born on May 3, 1927, in Las Vegas NV. She passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the age of 87. She was a homemaker. PHILLIPS, WILLIAM  
David was born to John P. and Ruth A. Phillips. He was joined in marriage to Mary Renning Phillips from 1959 to 1999, and later Carmen Johnson Phillips from 2001 to 2013. He was a graduate of Stanford University and his careers included years with TWA and as a Certified Life Insurance Underwriter for New England Life. David was a veteran of the Korean War, enjoyed photography and sailing at Huntington Lake, and was a generous philanthropist. David is survived by his three children, John Renning Phillips, Jane Phillips Fortino, and Margaret Phillips Wessel; as well as his four granddaughters. A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the William David Phillips Fund at the Fresno Regional Foundation. Katrina was born on Febuary 5, 1967, in Fresno, CA. A graduate from Roosevelt High School, Katrina made a career working at 7-Eleven for 25 years. She helped the growth of 7-Eleven stores across the Valley and used her experience to help employees continue their careers. Katrina also worked part time for seven years at Home Depot. Katrina is survived by Michael III, Katherine, Fernando, Timothy, JJ, and Michael Jr. Visitation will be held at Lisles Funeral Home on Monday, March 30, 2015, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Recitation of the Holy Rosary. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Johns Cathedral on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at 10:30 a.m.
