LEOLA MINER Obituary

Leola Miner was born on June 5, 1918. She was from a family of early pioneers who arrived in Fresno before 1885. She graduated from Fresno High School in the class of 1936, and Fresno State College with a BA degree in 1940. At Fresno State she was a member of the Golden Grads and Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She married her college sweetheart, Bob Miner, who passed away in January this year. She was a school teacher in Fresno and Clovis for 27 years where she helped develop the Clovis Reading Program. She belonged to the Metro Club for the Metropolitan Museum, was president of the Los Ninos Guild for Valley Children's Hospital, the Fig Garden Women's Club and the First Presbyterian Church. Leola was known as the teacher who could teach anyone to read. She also was a master at entertaining and had many lavish parties in her home. Her daughters learned a great deal about cooking and entertaining. The family would like to thank the Right at Home Agency who cared for her from the time of Bob's death until she moved to Sunrise in June. The care at Sunrise was loving and thoughtful. We would like to thank the entire Reminiscence staff. They are truly special people. Leola leaves two daughters, Mary Lyons, married to Bud, of Orinda, Ca. and Melissa Jeffers, married to Keith, of Del Mar, Ca. She also leaves four grandchildren, Katie Van Blois and her husband Brad from Lafayette, Ca., Jenny Lyons from Manhattan Beach, Ca., and Lauren and Scott Jeffers of Del Mar, Ca. Her loving brother, Donald Moxsy, still resides in Fresno. A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made payable to the Leola Miner Trust, 1173 W. San Ramon, Fresno, Ca. 93711 so something memorable may be purchased for Sunrise.

Leola was a wonderful neighbor and friend to my entire family. She was always there to help in any situation. She was not only a wonderful Teacher, but worked hard for various charities in Fresno. She had great energy to help others. She will be greatly missed. Leola was the last to go of a very close knit group of friends in Fresno. Her legacy will be remembered always. Kathryn Rousek Smith
