Carlos was born October 8, 1928, in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to CA in 1936. He was born into a family of ten siblings. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps
at age 17 in 1946 and served in World War II
and the Korean War
. He later enlisted in the Marine Reserves and discharged as a sergeant in 1951. He married Bonnie Bernal in 1949 and celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2013. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology from Fresno State College in 1959. He joined the Fresno Police Department in 1954 and left in 1964 to join the Foreign Service Department with the Agency for International Development. He represented the U.S. government as a diplomat in Central and South America and completed federal service in 1981. In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering for the International Footprinters Association, The American Legion and The Legion of Valor Museum. He passed away on April 6, 2014. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; his children, Diana Cuenca, Conrad Lopez, and Carla and her husband Darrick Duerksen; his grandchildren, Gabriel Cuenca and his fiancé Jeanette Burke, Danielle and Steven Mitchell, Danessa and John Kemerling, Alicia and Danny Sylvester, and Connor Lopez; and his great-grandchildren, Savannah and Easton Mitchell. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Fresno, CA, on April 25, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Legion of Valor Museum, 2425 Fresno St., Fresno, CA 93721.
