Duane Ellsworth Huntley was a caring husband, devoted father and a kind and gentle soul. He was taken from us too soon on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. He was 80 years old.
Duane was born in Montrose, Co. on March 3, 1933. Duane moved to California with his family and spent his early years in and around Turlock, Ca. After graduating from Turlock High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Morse Code Interceptor in Germany during the Korean War.
After his discharge, he enrolled at California State Sacramento, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While attending Cal State Sacramento, he met Lee Franklin who would become his wife.After graduation Duane excelled in a series of jobs from debt collector, district manager for Safeco insurance company, and pharmaceutical sales for Dow Chemical.
In 1968, Duane and Lee moved to Fresno from Sacramento to open Scope Agency, a personnel agency, which served the communities of Fresno, Bakersfield, Modesto and Stockton for almost 30 years.He was active in the North Fresno Rotary.
Duane was a committed father and loved to teach his sons the skills of life. He was active with his boys in the Indian Guides, Cub Scouts and Boy Scout programs, and was especially fond of building winning pinewood derby cars and running the troop firework stand each year.
Duane is survived by Lee, his wife of 51 years; his sons, David and Darren; and his daughters-in-law, Teresa and Saeron of San Jose; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hannah and Eleanor. He also leaves behind his sister, Jackie Gilbert and her husband Bill; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Duane's Life will be held for family and close friends on July 20, 2013.
