With family at his side, James E. Kaluza took his last flight on July 16, 2014, as a member of "The Greatest Generation". Dad will join Ellen Kaluza. his wife of over 60 years, in heaven. Ellen Kaluza went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2014. Jim was born to Sam and Hattie Kaluza, on July 31, 1921, in Havre, MT. He attended the University of Washington
in Seattle up until he joined the U.S. Army
Air Corps and was sent to Texas A&M. There he trained for and received his co-pilot and pilot rating. Based out of Italy, Jim flew in the 15th bomb group, European African Middlle Eastern Theater and received two bronze stars
. He then returned to finish his degree at the University of Washington. Jim worked a brief time for the Great Northern Railroad. He then went to work for Libby McNeil & Libby in the office but that wasn't for him so he went to outside sales. We traveled from Seattle to Alaska to Spokane and finally came to Fresno, CA where he and Ellen lived for over 50 years. Ellen was born on January 31, 1921, in North Dakota. She worked for the war department at the Ninth Service Command signal repair shop. Ellen spent most of her time as a homemaker, devoting herself to raising her two children. She loved to travel with her daughter and granddaughters. Jim and Ellen and family could be found every summer at Pismo Beach, Yosemite Park or Lake Tahoe where in their later years they spent every summer in their motor home at Zephyr Cove. They had many friends who would join them for the summer. They could be found playing bridge around the campfire with friends and family. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Ellen; and brother, Bob Kaluza of Havre, MT. Jim is survived by his two children, Colette Kaluza and Terry Kaluza;Terry's wife Cyndi Kaluza; two grandchildren, Lauren Silva and Lynn Hodge; and one great-grandchild, Caleb James Silva. A Graveside Service will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Fresno, CA on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m.
