Edward James Downs, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 24, 2014, after a year long battle with cancer. He was born on February 15, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa. but lived most of his life in the Clovis and Sanger area. He was retired from the Clovis Police Department after 30 years of service as a police corporal. His greatest joys in life were his granddaughters, traveling with his wife Anita, and playing golf with his friends. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Downs; and his two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife Anita; his daughter, Jill Lujan and her husband Lennie, and their daughters, Caitlin, Kellie, and Krista; his son, Edward Downs III; his step-sons, Josh and Lance Freeman; and his former wife, Lynn Downs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Optimal Hospice; or the donor's favorite charity.
