Guillermo peacefully left us to be with his Heavenly Father on September 4, 2013. He was born on October 9, 1921, in El Paso, Texas. Guillermo joined the U.S. Army-Signal Corps in 1942 and proudly served his country in the WWII Australian campaign and the Battle of Goodenough Island, Papua New Guinea. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelina O. Maynez; his father, Eduardo Maynez; his mother, Herminia P. Maynez; his sister, Margaret Duke; his brother, Michael Maynez; and his niece, Little Margaret Duke. Guillermo is survived by his six children and their spouses: William Maynez and wife Carmelita Alvarez, Lupe M. Adams and husband Bob, Oscar Maynez and wife Trudy Bixby, Alicia Montejano and husband John, David Maynez and wife Juana, and Julie Maynez; grandchildren: Aaron Corpus and wife Jennifer, Christina Murillo, Michael Murillo, Anna Maynez, Veronica Maynez, Alex Islas, Eric Islas, and Jose Ramirez; great-grandchildren: Joseph and Elizabeth Corpus; special niece Pearl Thayer and husband Albert, and their children, John, Cha Cha, and Joseph Thayer; brother, Raul Maynez and wife Margaret and their family; and numerous nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to caregiver, Carolyn Carr; Gina Arnold and Dr. P. Ginier and staff at the Veterans Administration Medical Center; Jack and Anna Hurley and staff at Apricot Mornings; and the staff at Hinds Hospice. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Yost & Webb Funeral Home, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. at St. John's Cathedral. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard, California.
