Jeanne, age 88, of Fresno passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Thursday, March 20, 2014. She was born in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, England to Laurence and Ethel Pitt on May 18, 1925. She enlisted in WRNS (Women's Royal Naval Service) at age 18, at the height of World War II. Jeanne was a telephone operator assigned to the American forces. She married her husband, Ronald Eugene Hammond, a United States Army Sergeant, at the end of the war. As a war bride with an infant, she sailed across the Atlantic and eventually arrived in Bayview, ID. She raised her family in Washington State and moved to California in 1968. Jeanne loved to travel and was able to return to the Isle of Wight one last time in 2012, with her family. Jeanne was known to many in Fresno from her work at Charlie's/ The Remington in Sunnyside for many years. As a co-owner of R.S.V.P. party planning, Jeanne and her partner, Kathy Frantzich were successful entrepreneurs in the Valley. She worked at It's My Party - Party Rentals well into her 80's, when she finally decided to retire. Work was her remedy for old age. Her mind was sharp and she looked amazing until the end. Even her doctor didn't believe her age! Jeanne is survived by a large family who will miss her dearly, Geraldine Hanford and her husband Fran, Elizabeth Henningsgard and her husband George, Patricia O'Farrell, Susan Brock-Jones and her husband Greg; grandchildren, Mike Johnson, Ryan Brock- Jones, Amy Idsvoog, Jon Henningsgard, Seana O'Farrell, Alyssa Souza, Meegan Grant and Eryn Parker; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Jeanne's ashes will be buried at sea in Morro Bay and Ventnor, Isle of Wight, according to her wishes. There will be a private celebration in Morro Bay on what would have been her 89th birthday.
