Our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, Robert Lee "Bob" McMillian, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2011. He lived a long and fulfilling life and will forever touch the lives of his family and many friends.
Bob was born on January 12, 1925, in Houston, Texas, to Allen and Myrtle McMillian, the second of two boys. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas, in 1943. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and completed Flight School in 1944. As a Second Lieutenant, he flew B-17's in WWII. Upon discharge, he became a private pilot.
He relocated to Fresno, where his boys were raised. Over the years, Bob had many occupations, from Salesman to Restaurateur to Business Owner. He was a founding member of Cedar Lanes Bowling Alley and became the Valley's first bowling instructor. He owned and operated Senor Taco, and later operated Riverside and Airways Coffee Shops, and owned Southfork Restaurant in Clovis.
Bob had many hobbies. He was quite accomplished at golfing, hunting, fishing, water skiing and snow skiing. He even shot his age while golfing when he was 79 (twice)! Over the years, he shared his love for these activities by teaching many of us. We are lucky to have such great memories of learning the golf swing, baiting the hook, and skiing behind his boat!
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-son, James Jurkovich.
He is survived by Peggy Joanne McMillian, his wife of 39 years; brother, Allen McMillian of Los Gatos; sons, Robert McMillian, Jr., Michael McMillian and his wife Sylvia, and Patrick McMillian and his girlfriend, Dale Fachner; step-daughter, Janie Doak and her husband Steve; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his dog Charlie, his constant companion.
A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel of the Light, 1620 W. Belmont Ave. in Fresno on Friday, August 12, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to Living Hope Community Church, 2345 E. Clinton, Fresno, Ca. 93703, or your favorite charity.
