Jose Miguel Oroz was born March 17, 1925, in Spain. Upon the death of his mother, Jose at two years of age, was raised by his godparents, Miguel and Josefa Elcano. He always felt as loved as any of their children.
He arrived in 1952 from Spain under the contract between Spain and this country to become a shepherd because of the need of workers in this field. His first job was in Chico, CA herding sheep. Shortly after he came to Fresno he was employed by Esain's Villa Basque. After working there a few years he became the chef, a position he held for many years.
Upon retiring, he moved to Tranquillity where he resided for 20 years. He loved country living. In 2001, he returned to Fresno to live in a retirement facility. His final days were spent at Serenity Living. His care was excellent there and we would like to thank Josianne and Roxana for their loving care.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Anna Mari Elcano; and his godchild, Maria Elena Elcano; and many nieces and nephews all in Spain.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Shrine of St. Therese Catholic Church on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to Serenity Living, 2605 West Barstow Ave. Fresno, CA, 93711.
