Elaine Ruth Sohn Maas, 81, of Friendswood, TX joined the Church Triumphant on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. She was born on January 11, 1933 to Martin and Alma Sohn in Saginaw, MI. She lived the majority of her life in Saginaw, MI and Lake Worth, FL with her final years in Friendswood, TX. Elaine served the community as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. She adored her husband and best friend Emil whom she married August 27, 1956, and treasured spending time with her family who camped, fished, and enjoyed nature together. Elaine was an avid bowler, card player and active church member. She relished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, teaching them how to play poker and other important card games, as well as other fun activities. She loved Jesus and relied on His power and promises for her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Emil Oscar Maas and her parents.
Elaine is survived by her children; Lynn Ann Hobratschk and her husband Rev. Ralph Hobratschk, Rev. Mark James Maas, and his wife Cheri Maas, Karrie Wareham and Trudy Barus and her husband Art Barus; brothers, Ray Sohn of Canada and Don Sohn and his wife Wanda of IN; grandchildren, Kasi Culwell, John Hobratschk, Katie, James and Nicholas Maas, Stephen and Joshua Wareham, Matthew and Mitchell Barus; great grandchildren, Tristan Hobratschk, Lillie Culwell, Mark Maas, Lily Marie Fowler, and Caleb David Wareham; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and cherished friends.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on earth and her new life in Heaven on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, 1804 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Rev. Ralph Hobratschk officiating. A meal and reception will follow at the church.
