Gary Lawrence Mitchell was born on February 3, 1950 to the late Ulyssee Mitchell and Bernice Duncan in Quincy, Florida. He departed his life on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. He lived in Quincy, Florida through his middle school years and to Brooklyn, New York with his mother, as a child, he enjoyed drawing comic book characters. In 1973, he graduated from John Jay High School in NY. In 1977, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Brooklyn College. Gary was very skilled with his hands and worked as a carpenter and painter and provided building maintenance. He continued to live in Brooklyn until his later years when he moved to Woodhaven, NY. He was politically and socially conscious and identified with the ideologies of Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. He was passionate about life and optimistic of change. He developed his own philosophical views on life and living. Also, Gary enjoyed fine arts. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory, two children, John Mitchell and Karima McCline; three siblings, Ruby Carter, Frank Chisholm and Ron Chisholm; three aunts, Ruby Jackson (Joe), Geraldine Butler, Utha Sanders Dawkins; an uncle, Gus Dasher; a nephew, Troy Chisholm; and 10 cousins, Brenda Jackson, Joe Jackson III (Sandra), Michelle Jackson, Duncan Eric Jackson, Gus Dasher Jr., Daniel Dasher, Sheila Dasher, Paul Dasher, Tracy Dasher and Andre Dasher. Funeral services were held on September 17, 2014 in Morganville, New Jersey. John's Funeral Home of Brooklyn, New York was in charge of the arrangements.
