William Harvey "Bill" Moore, Sr., 83 of Andalusia passed away Tuesday, July 2nd, 2014 at his residence on Antioch Road. Funeral services will be held graveside 11 am Monday, July 7, 2014 at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, Rev. Billy Boles officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 pm Sunday July 6th at Keahey Funeral Home in Andalusia. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey M. Moore, Jr., Charles Jackson Moore, Jeremy D. Morgan, Thomas L. Moore, Jr., Col. John M. Kidd and Clay Barfield. Honorary pallbearers are Bill's Sunday School class at Lake Talquin Baptist Church, his cousin Andrew Moore and good friends Bill Goode and Wayne Granberry. Bill was born February 5th, 1931 at his Grandfather Harvey C. Moore's home on Seegars Street in Andalusia. His parents were Dewey C. Moore, Sr. and Bonice Leonard Moore. He spent his boyhood working on his father's dairy farm on the Conecuh River. He attended East Three Notch and Church Street elementary schools. He graduated from Andalusia High School in 1949. While at Andalusia High School, Bill played 4 years on the football team. In the fall of 1949, Bill entered the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). In 1951 during the Korean Conflict, Bill joined the United States Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant by the time he mustered out. While stationed at Brookley Air Base in Mobile, he met the love of his life, Hilda Faust. They married on March 18th, 1954. He once again enrolled at API under the GI Bill. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Entomology. He put his degree to good use as he immediately went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture's Plant Protection and Quarantine. Over his 30-year career with the PPQ, Bill worked in Mobile, AL, Baton Rouge, LA, New Orleans, LA, Hyattsville, MD and Brownsville, TX. He rose from Inspector to Regional Director of the South Central Region APHIS PPQ. At the time of his retirement he was a member of the United States Government's Senior Executive Service. Bill and Hilda retired on the banks of Lake Talquin near Quincy, FL. He and his oldest son Bill Jr. enjoyed many hours together trying to out fish each other in search of the large mouth bass. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking and spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the Lake Talquin Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Bill and Hilda moved back to Andalusia in the summer of 2013 to be closer to their two sons. Declining health prevented Bill from getting involved in things in Andalusia but he was glad to have made the move. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda F. Moore. Brother Thomas L. (Carolyn) Moore, Sr. of Lee, FL. Daughter Janet Moore (Col. John) Kidd of Holly Springs, GA. Son William H. Moore, Jr. of Babbie and son Jeffrey M. (Beverly) Moore, Sr. of Andalusia. Grandchildren Marianne (Jeremy) Morgan, Jeffrey Moore, Jr., Amanda Kidd, Daniel Kidd, Jackson Moore and Great Granddaughter Leah Kate Morgan.
