Dean Joseph Fenn(1945 - 2013)

Dean Joseph Fenn, age 68, of Greensboro, FL, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Greensboro. Dean was born February 11, 1945, to Edwin Lee and May Dean Fenn. He was born in Quincy, FL, and lived in Liberty County, FL until the age of five at which time his family relocated to Greensboro. He was a graduate of Greensboro High School and Florida State University.

Dean was a lifelong public servant working at both the state and federal levels of government. He served as District Assistant for the late U.S. Senator Lawton Chiles for ten years and was the longest serving District Assistant on his staff. He then worked as an aide to the late State Senator Pat Thomas for several years. Following this, he served under the late Governor Lawton Chiles with the title Special Assistant to the Governor.
Dean was a member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Flat Creek Baptist Church for many years and later was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He also served on the Corporate Board of Directors of Robert F. Munroe Day School and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Dean was an avid reader and especially loved Civil War, WWII, and local Florida history. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, including squirrel hunting and fishing at his camp at Fenn Slough in Liberty County. He was a strong advocate for the preservation of the Apalachicola River and it remained a lifelong passion for him.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rosalyn Fletcher Fenn, his daughter Rebecca Fenn Huddleston and her husband Stephen Prentiss Huddleston of Tallahassee. He is also survived by his grandson, Fletcher Prentiss Huddleston. Other survivors include his sister Anne Fenn Iley of Milwaukee, WI and three brothers, A. Eugene Fenn (Tye) of San Antonio, TX, Samuel J. Fenn (Marcia) of Tallahassee, and Benjamin V. Fenn of Pensacola. Six nieces and three nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Hamilton Fletcher Fenn.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-7 PM at Independent Funeral Home (850-875-1529) in Quincy. Funeral services will be held at Flat Creek Baptist Church at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 5. Internment will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Robert F. Munroe Day School, 91 Old Mt. Pleasant Road, Quincy, FL 32352.
