Services for Louis Raber Butler, Sr., 89, of Calvary, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, Calvary, GA. Rev. Joey Butler, Rev. Paul Day, and Rev. Stan Godwin will officiate. Interment will be in Piedmont Cemetery, Calvary, GA. Mr. Butler passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center, Tallahassee, FL, on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Calvary Baptist Church and members of the Calvary Lion's Club.
Mr. Butler was born on October 8, 1923, in Calvary, GA, to the late Robert and Pearl Butler. He served his country in WWII
, in the United States Army. He has been an active deacon of Calvary Baptist Church for forty-six years and served as the church treasurer for thirty-three years. Raber was an active Lion of the Calvary Lion's Club for fifty-five years. On January 20, 1952, he married Sadie Vause Butler, who survives. He was an experienced farmer growing tobacco, beans, squash, peanuts, cotton, and much more. He was an outdoorsman and especially loved fishing. He always put heart and soul into Mule Day because he fully believed in helping the less fortunate. He was truly a humble man of God and a man of courage.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Sadie Louise Butler of Calvary, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Lavanda and Sammy Standley; sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Malinda Butler, Hansel and Heidi Butler, and daughter and son-in-law, Vonda and Deron Rehberg, all of Calvary, GA. His grandchildren are Louis and Stacie Butler of Hahira, GA, Mindy Butler, Maura Butler, Macy Rehberg, Eliza Butler, Spence Butler, and Devon Rehberg, all of Calvary, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Bessie Butler of Quincy, FL, Bob and Harriet Butler of Tallahassee, FL, Virgil and Mary Jo Butler of Gretna, FL; sisters, Elga Hunter of Lake City, FL, Winona Genton of Zellwood, FL, Delia Jean Hersey of Orlando, FL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilee Butler of Calvary, GA, Janice Butler of Quincy, FL, and Clarence Simon of Locheford, CA.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Gertrude Simon; brothers, Ermon Butler and H. M. Butler.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, October 25, 2012, from 6 until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Lion's Club, Piedmont Cemetery Fund, or Calvary Baptist Church.
