Mary Jane Blake Clifton

Mary Jane Blake Clifton, age 74, entered God's eternal presence on Friday, December 28, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. She was adopted as an infant along with her sister Ann and brother Bill by her parents Edgar S. Blake and Daisy M. Blake from The Children's Home Society of Florida in Jacksonville, FL. Together they made their home in Quincy, FL.

Mary Jane graduated from Gadsden County High School and attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL where she was a pledge at Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. During her time at Florida Southern College she was crowned Miss Lakeland. After graduating from college she returned to Quincy and started a dance studio. She met Norman Porterfield Clifton, Jr. at Florida Southern College while he was attending on a Baseball scholarship. They married June 18, 1960 at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Quincy, FL. They moved to Ocala, FL in 1960 where they raised 3 children. Together they operated Ocala Ford Motors and Greenway Angus Cattle Farm.

Mary Jane has been a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Ocala since 1960. She was a multi talented person who enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, decorating, cooking, painting, calligraphy and making jewelry. She was an artist. Many were the recipient of her handmade gifts. Mary Jane was a loving mother, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend. She lived the life of a true Christian.

She is survived by a son Norman Porterfield Clifton, III and his wife Katrina of Ocala, FL; daughter Julia Clifton Carter and her husband David of Ocala, FL; brother Bill Blake of Quincy, FL; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman P. Clifton, Jr., daughter Daisy Covington Clifton; sister Ann Cantey and parents Edgar S. and Daisy Blake.

A visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470 on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 503 SE Broadway Street, Ocala, FL 34471 on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1pm. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children's Home Society of Florida, 3027 San Diego Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32207 or Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478 in memory of Mary Jane Blake Clifton.
