Myrtle Evelyn Johnson Cox passed away peacefully Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the age of 97. The service will be held Wednesday, November 1, 10:00 AM at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery later.

She was born in 1920 to Florrie and Ollie Johnson of Greensboro. Myrtle will be remembered as a hard working, loving, and caring mother, grandmother, aunt and a faithful friend. She was a long time employee of the A.L. Wilson Co. of Quincy, an avid gardener and long term member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter; Ann Cox, grandchildren; Jennifer Nolan (Tony), Heather Adams, Courtney Beck (Alex), and great grandchildren; James, Katy, Callie, and Christopher as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Eva Lunsford, Christian Rowan, Curtis, and Asa Johnson, her husband Philip Cox and son; Billy Philip Cox and a daughter-in-law; Jean Cox.

A very special thanks to Ms. Vanie Shuler who took care of Myrtle and to members of ; the staff of Big Bend Hospice, especially her long term caregivers LeeAnn Jones and Natalie Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, 32308. Independent Funeral Home (850-875-1529) is handling arrangements.
