Alonzo T. "Lon" Abbott

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. Alonzo T. "Lon" Abbott, 75, who passed away Saturday night, Sept. 22, 2007 at his home in Gadsden. The Rev. Jeff Dunaway will officiate. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. There will be no graveside services in Birmingham. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing.

Mr. Abbott was a member of First United Methodist Church of Glencoe. He graduated from West End High School in Birmingham and served in the United States Air Force. He was retired from U.S. Steel in Birmingham and had worked at the Post Office in Fairfield. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, was an avid Alabama fan and was known for his wood-craftsmanship. He lived in Fairfield and Center Point and attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Center Point until 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye, in 2001; and also his son-in-law, John Ennis.

He is survived by his six daughters, LeeAnne Maxwell, Springville, Terri Yancey, Springville, Londa (Steve) Ausborn, Glencoe, Allison (Skip) Pennington, Trussville, Lori Ennis, Clay, and Lisa (Bobby) Murphree, Pinson; and a niece, Betty Hodge, Hoover. He had 11 grandchildren, Robert, Rebecca (Wayne), Natalie, Joseph, Madi, Trey, Katie, Matthew, Audrey, Adam and Nicole; and one great-grandchild, Bethany.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be send in memory of Lon Abbott to First United Methodist Church of Glencoe, 314 Third Ave., Glencoe, AL 35905.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
