Aubrey Phil Newman

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Village Chapel for Aubrey Phil Newman, 69, of Attalla, who died April 4, 2014. Etowah County Sheriff's Office Community Crisis Chaplain Rev. Vince Whittington will officiate. Burial will take place at Crestwood Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Newman served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He later served in the Air National Guard. Mr. Newman was an investigator for the Rainbow City Police Department and the Etowah County Sheriff's Department for 11 years. He was an avid University of Alabama football fan. Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Carnel Mae Newman; sisters, Barbara Ann Newman and Judith Fran Newman.
He is survived by his wife, Darla Newman; daughter, April Lee Newman; son, Christopher Phil Newman; brothers, Alan (Bell) Newman, Nathan "Coon" (Sonya) Newman, Grafton (Gwnnell) Newman; sisters, Monetha (Tom) Jarvis, Willie Bishop, Carolyn (Billy) Gann, Jenny Haswell (Leonard) Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sheriff Todd Entrekin, Johnny Grant, Eddie Cox, David Waters, Phillip Stone, Rick Hill and Jimmy Entrekin.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staffs of Oak Landing Assisted Living, Etowah County Sheriff's Department and Rainbow City Police Department.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to GRMC's ninth floor and the nurses and staff of RMC.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
