Carl Jackson Dean

Carl J. Dean, MSG, Retired USAF, 79, left this earth on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in Panama City, FL, where he had been a resident since the 1950s.
Mr. Dean was born in Etowah County, AL, in 1934, the seventh and youngest child of Vitchel and Maude (Hamlin) Dean. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force to, as he described it - "avoid the REALLY hard work on the farm."
Carl served 20 active duty years, retiring in 1971. His service included four tours in Thailand, two tours in Japan as well as tours in Turkey and Korea. He was a very proud Veteran of the Vietnam and Korean wars and enjoyed the company of other service members throughout his life, sharing that special bond.
Carl was the father of five daughters: Cynthia, Linda, Pamela, Patricia and Nicole; as well as a grandfather to Jessica, Anna and Brian; and a great-grandfather to Jenna. He loved Panama City and the coast, adopting the location as his home and enjoying his retirement years there. He enjoyed fishing and the solitude it brought, as well the camaraderie of coffee with his fellow Veterans.
Over the years, Carl met many friends, and held dear to his heart his friend and longtime neighbor, Sheila; his buddies at the Waffle Shoppe; as well as Debbie and Mr. Brown, who looked after him in his declining health. No one will ever forget the 'Carl BLT' or the concern you all showed - thank you all for watching over him. He may not have been able to express his feelings to you very well - but he always went where he was most comfortable and spent time with all of you.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings.
