Mr. J.B. Abel Jr., 68, Gadsden, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008. A chapel service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Hokes Bluff Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his father, James (Buck) Abel Sr.; sons, Scott Abel and David Abel; and niece, Marisa Abel. He was a lifelong native of Hokes Bluff and graduated from Hokes Bluff High School. He was employed for 41 years with Gulf States Steel. He was an avid Alabama football fan and loved spending a majority of his time with his family and friends on the river.
Mr. Abel is survived by his wife, Barbara Abel; mother, Jewell G. Abel; sons, Mike Abel, Jimmy Abel and Casey (Denise) Reaves; daughter, Michele (Jackie) Carroll; brother, Fred (Alice) Abel; brother-in-law, Steve Burns; sisters-in-law, Drunetta New and Cheyann York; grandchildren, Quincy Ella Reaves and Parker and Lauren Abel; nephew, Chris (Andria) Abel; great-nephew, Mason Abel; great-nieces, Gracie and Addison Abel; and special friend, Wayne Harrelson.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Carroll, Chris Abel, Casey Reaves, Patrick Haden, Chuck Weaver, Mike Weaver, Terry (Doc) Brown and Ken Spraggins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ralph Wesley, Steve Stinson and J.B's friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Coates Bend Fire Department and the staff of Riverview Regional Emergency Room.
A visitation will be held tonight from 5 to 7 p.m.
