Lawton J. Smith

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. Lawton J. Smith, 86, of Websters Chapel, who died Thursday, April 4, 2013. The Revs. Mike Howard and Joey Hanner will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Mr. Lawton retired from Union Foundry with over 30 years of service as a pattern maker. He was a longtime member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Glatha Beard Smith; and parents, Joe and Bessie Smith.
He is survived by a brother, Wayne (Jean) Smith; nieces, Karen (Chip) Reeves, Vicki (Daniel) Dukes, Kathy (Harold) Smith, Tammy Beard; nephews, Eddie (Donna) Beard, Winsell (Susan) Beard, Dwayne (Faye) Beard; sisters-in-law, Nadine Noah and Kathleen Beard; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Curvin, Jerry Thornton, Jimmy Thornton, Randy Rich, Dwayne Beard and Ray Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Men's Sunday School class of Mt. Gilead, Waylon Burton and Buddy Prater.
Special thanks to David and Wanda Trantham and Alacare Hospice.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 this evening.
