Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 3:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Gadsden, and Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Frink Baptist Church, Frink, Fla., for Richard Harris "Tex" Blount, 74, of Gadsden, who died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014. Father Marcus Voss, O.S.B., will officiate in Gadsden and the Rev. Dan Thomas will officiate in Frink, Fla. Burial in McClellan Cemetery, Frink, Fla. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Peavy Funeral Home, Blountstown, Fla., are directing.
Mr. Blount proudly served his country first in the Marine Corps and then enlisted in the United States Air Force
, where he served in Vietnam as an air transportation supervisor. Upon his military retirement, he worked in heating and air conditioning supply and retired from Solar Supply Co. in Alexandria, La., where he lived until 2009. When he moved to Gadsden, Mr. Blount loved to ride his motorcycle, fishing, camping with his family and hunting. Most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his spouse of 50 years, Ruthie Nichols Blount; parents, John Harrison Blount and Edna Lucille McGilvray Blount; brother, Dale Wayne Blount; grandson, Samuel Nichols; and granddaughter, Sandra McAdams Johnson.
Survivors: daughters, Patricia (Jim) McAdams, Gadsden, Ala., Bonnie (Randy) Bryn, Shreveport, La.; sons, Robert C. (Jan) Nichols, Boyce, La., Billy M. Nichols, Altha, Fla., Gene (Paula) Weaver, Lynn Haven Fla.; sister, Shirley Wilson, Reno, Nev.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic School Gift Fund.
Pallbearers are Christopher J. McAdams, James Carlton Walden, Richard Graham, Jim McAdams, Johnny Kilgo, Danny H. Walden.
Honorary pallbearers will be the physicians and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center; Denise, Lyndsi, Cara and the staff of Alacare Hospice.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Peavy Funeral Home.
