Thomas Buford Carr

Thomas Buford Carr, 88, of Albertville, Ala., passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Shepherd's Cove Hospice.
A graduate of Albertville High School, Buford proudly served in the Army in World War II. After returning from Europe, he married the love of his life, Sara Childress. They had three children, Patsy, Tom and Sheila. Buford graduated from Auburn University in 1952, then excelled for 30 years in his Civil Service career at Redstone Arsenal and at Fort Rucker in Alabama.
Buford and Sara returned to Albertville and enjoyed retirement for 31 years, traveling the U.S. and Europe, as well as attending Auburn football games. After 60 years of marriage, Sara passed away in 2006.
Buford was the third child of seven, born to the late Ulysis and Lula Carr of Asbury, Ala. His brother, Byron, a casualty of World War II, and his sister, Mamie, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his favorite brothers, Leon (Margaret) Carr, Billy (Ellon) Carr and George (June) Carr, all from Albertville; and his dearest sister, Joyce (Gerald) Smith of Huntsville.
Buford is also survived by his loving children, Patsy Westover, Sarasota, Fla., Tom (Nancy) Carr, Marietta, Ga., Sheila Mountain, Southside, Ala. His favorite grandchildren are John Ford, Randy Mountain, Josh Ford, Bo Carr, Kristy Phillips, Becki Lee and Brad Westover; and great-grandchildren, Emily Carr, Patrick Ford, Karter Phillips and Zachary and Nathan Westover.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Methodist Church of Albertville. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
The family requests donations to Marshall County Hospice - Shepard's Cove in lieu of flowers.
