Velma M. (Phillips) Couch

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Velma M. (Phillips) Couch, 89, a longtime resident of Gadsden, who passed away on April 12, 2014. The Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home will direct.
Mrs. Couch was born in Blount County on May 6, 1924, to James and Susie Phillips. She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1942. She worked at the Alabama City Bank and First Federal Savings and Loan (now Southern Bank) for many years. She assisted in opening up and managing the First Federal branch office at the Gadsden Mall. She was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Couch was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert H. (Bob) Couch; her mother and father; and seven of her nine siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Linn (husband, Phillip) of Powder Springs, GA; and her son, Dana (wife, Maureen) of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Adam Linn (wife, Blair), Andrew Linn and Leslie Linn, Caitlin Couch and Chelsea Couch, Maren (husband, Jason) Krupp, and Lauren (husband, Morgan) Price; great-grandchildren, Bennett, Lawson, Maci-Kate and Ace Linn, Holland Krupp, Landon, Aubrey and Kinsleigh Linn; her sister, Ozell Robbins of Smyrna, GA; brother, Calvin Phillips of Birmingham, AL.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515,; or Hopewell Primitive Baptist Cemetery Fund, 109 Drexal Drive, Oneonta, AL 35121.
The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
