Mr. Cecil "Gunsmoke" Cranford Jr. went to be with his Lord Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Bro. Harold Coe will officiate. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directs. Interment with military graveside honors will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Memory Hill Gardens, Tuscaloosa.
Mr. Cranford was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having proudly served his country in the 45th Infantry during the Korean War. He retired from Republic Steel after 36 years of service. A loving Papa, he enjoyed Alabama football and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Mr. Cranford was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Sr. and Ethel Cranford, and by several brothers and sisters.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 56 years, Margaret "Mog" Clinton Cranford; daughters, Linda "Peanut" Hopper and Cecilia "Ceely, CI" Mecham (Husband, Robert); sons, Michael Bruce Cranford (Wife, Sonya "Sasha") and Jeffrey Cranford; sister, Eudell Woods; grandchildren, James Clinton "Clint," Jeffery Dakota "Cody," Jessy Mecham, Austin and Dalton, and Rusty and Derek; and great-granddaughter, Hali "Papa's little buddy."
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of Amedisys Hospice.
The family will accept friends for visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan Chapel.
