Herston joined the United States Army in 1953 and served at the end of the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. Upon return, he joined his family in the pulpwood business. He spent several years "snaking" logs out of the woods with a mule. In the early 1970s, he went to work with Ira Phillips Inc., where he remained for the rest of his career, driving a gas truck for 30 years. He so enjoyed that.
Mr. Gladden was preceded in death by his son, Chris; parents, Charley and Geneva Gladden; siblings, Eunice Helms, Fidella Ballard, Vennie Guyton and Buford (Boots) Gladden; and grandson, Brandon Richey.
He is survived by wife of 60 years, Bobbie; his two daughters, Charlene and Deborah Gladden; grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Holder, Brandi (Moose) Whalen, Paige Richey and Todd Richey; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Jordan, Kayla, Bronson, Neal, Logan and Luke; many friends.

Honorary pallbearers: friends at Ira Phillips and Leonard Easter.
