Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Village Chapel for Larry Owen Duncan, 66, of Attalla, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. The Rev. Jamie Rowan will officiate. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Duncan was born on Dec. 14, 1947, in Gadsden. He graduated from Etowah High school in 1966 and then continued his education at Gadsden State Community College. Larry served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber and later retired with 29 years service. Larry Duncan was known as "Superman" by his family, because he always went above and beyond the call of duty. He was such a selfless man, an avid lover of everyone, and a huge Alabama football fan.
Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his parents, Shelly O. and Mary Lois Duncan; brother, Phillip J. Duncan; and his in-laws, Wallace and Reba Vaughn.
Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Brenda Vaughn Duncan; daughters, Karen (Mark) Cochran, Kristi (Jamie) Rowan; grandchildren, Halli Clayton, Paden Allen, Tyler Cochran, Haley (Christopher) Rayborn and Lacey (Jason) Clough; special great-grandchildren, Braxtin Lane Clayton and Brody Lee Clough; brothers, Kenneth Duncan, Jeffrey (Mary) Duncan and Michael Duncan; sisters-in-law, Sharon Duncan and Delores Steed; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be friends and relatives.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
