Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Amos A. Newton Jr., 63, of Ashville, who died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.
Mr. Newton was of the Baptist faith. He attended Ashville High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army, and received a Purple Heart and numerous other medals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Myrtle Newton; and brother-in-law, Bo Hammond.
Cremation services provided by Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Survivors: sister, Judy Hammond, Steele; brothers, Val (Donna) Newton, Wellington, Kenneth (Nancy) Newton, Hokes Bluff, Ray (Marsha) Newton, Wichita, Kan., Reggie Newton, Ashville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the disabled veterans.
Pallbearers will be brothers and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Sally Sternenberg, Dianne Newton, Lisa Short and all nieces and nephews.
