Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Crestwood Chapel for Barbara Alford, 83, Hokes Bluff, who passed away October 22, 2013. The Rev. Frank Samuels and Steven Dial will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.

Mrs. Alford was a native of Gadsden, Ala. She moved to Gualala, Calif., from 1955 to 1969. She and her husband, Zelman, owned Alford's Grocery store in Gadsden from 1969 until closing it in 1990. After the store's closing, Mrs. Alford went back to school at the age of 60 and obtained an Associate degree in Computer Science. She worked in the GSCC computer lab 19 years and retired at the age of 79.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Zelman Alford; and her son, Ronald Edward Alford.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Alford (Sara), Becky Coffey (Danny), Nancy Webb (Mike), David Alford and Elizabeth Dial (Steven); 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Reynolds and Willene Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family would like to express special thanks to Southern Care Hospice, Virgil Gowens, Jamie Gaddis and other special sitters for their loving kindness and care during this time.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
