Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for the Rev. J.L. Adcock, 65, Gadsden, with entombment at Crestwood Mausoleum. The Rev. David Adcock officiating. The family will receive friends at Collier-Butler from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Rev J.L. Adcock went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009. The Rev. Adcock was also reunited with his father, Howard L. Adcock; infant daughter, Sonya Lynne Adcock; and great-grandson, Christian Blake Watson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 21 years, Ruth MacPherson Adcock; three daughters, Kimberly Davis, Pleasant Garden, N.C., Sheila Lawson, Los Angeles, and Shari Lynn Owens, Weaver; three grandchildren, Justin Davis, Pleasant Garden, N.C., Peter Lawson, Miami, and Katie (Jason) Watson, Gadsden; great-grandchildren, Corbin Hawks, Madison Stoner and Ethan Davis; mother, Mildred Brewster Adcock; three sisters, Mavis (Joe) Crews, Weaver, Myra Maddox and Faye Thurman, Gadsden; three brothers, Edward Adcock, Pinson, David (Diane) Adcock, Gadsden, and Richard Adcock, Gadsden; and a host of loving friends, nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Adcock was active in the Lord's work for the last 30 years, preaching in churches throughout the Southeast, while also serving for many years as associate pastor at the Tabernacle Church on South 11th Sreet in Gadsden. He was affectionately know as "The Pastor" of the Love Center in Gadsden where he volunteered his services for the last 25 years on a daily basis.

An avid sportsman, J.L. loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed golfing with his family and friends and trading items at Trade Day. His greatest love was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others and ministering to their needs.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Handley, Jarod Handley, Jeremy Handley, Craig Brooks, Gerald Hickman and Jason Watson.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Davis, Dr. Hillman Holley and Dudley MacPherson.

Special thanks to the Gadsden paramedics and fire department personnel and the emergency room staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
