Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Village Chapel for James David Spurling, 66, Gadsden, who joined his mom, dad and all his brothers and sisters in Heaven on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The Rev. Buddy O'Bryant will officiate. Burial will take place at Morton's Chapel Cemetery on Highway 278. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
David was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for more than 30 years for Barbers-Meadow Gold Dairies and several years for Purity before retiring. David was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his dad, James Frank Spurling, mom, Etta Lee Spurling; brothers: Buster, Howard and John Spurling; sisters, Virginia Alldredge, Polly Johnson, Geneva Miller and Annette Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Gore Spurling; son, Howard (Stacey) Spurling; daughter, Elisha (Jeff) Patterson; his four precious granddaughters, Ashley (John) Blevins, Stephanie Spurling, Kinslee and Bella Patterson; first great-granddaughter is due March 21, 2013, who will be named Karma Paige Blevins; and a host of nieces and nephews; special niece and nephew and card playing buddies, Linda and Albert Washburn; special lap buddies, Lilly and Zoie.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Patterson, Jeff Gore, Tyler Tibbitt, Brady Smith, James Spurling, Albert Washburn, Bill Gore and Michael Dunn.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to UAB Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
