James Harvey "Pop" Allen, born June 17, 1929, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Crestwood Chapel. The Revs. Gerald Adams and Van Lockridge will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Mr. Allen was a lifelong member of Paden Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon, Sunday School director, taught Sunday School and served on numerous mission trips. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 39 years of service. He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Edna Allen; son, Glen Harvey Allen; parents, Walter and Margaret Maddox; brother, Oscar Allen Maddox; and sister, Margaret June Turner.
He is survived by daughters, June (Eddie) Nichols and Cheryl (Jim) Cornutt; chosen daughter, Kay Moore; sons, James David Allen, John (Dena) Allen and Bill Allen; granddaughters, Melody (Chris) Cornutt Oakley, Danielle (K.C.) Allen Oswalt, Jennifer Allen, Jessica Nichols, Ashley Allen; grandsons, Benjamin Cornutt, Joshua Nichols, Jonathan Nichols, Daniel Allen, Isaac Ngan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paden Baptist Church, 900 Padenreich Ave., Gadsden, AL 35903.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jason Ayers and the Lawley Hospice staff who provided both love and care. Each has become part of our family.
Visitation will be at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Sunday until the hour of service.
