Funeral service for John Jackson "Jack" Haggard, 84, of Attalla, who died Saturday, May 25,2013, will be at the First United Methodist Church of Attalla on Tuesday with visitation at 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., with the service at noon. The Rev. Mark Smith will officiate. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory will direct and provide the cremation.
Mr. Haggard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Ann Cox Haggard; sons, John Jeffery (Jan) Haggard of Gulf Shores and Michael Warren Haggard; grandson, Jeff (Aimee) Haggard, and great-granddaughter, Sophia Haggard, of Oregon; and brother-in-law, Earnest Arlie England of Scottsboro.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Gladys Haggard; brother, Jimmy Haggard; sister, Dorothy Haggard England; and grandson, William Jackson Haggard.
Jack was born April 22, 1928, graduated from Etowah High School in 1946. He served in the Navy, with the rank of Storekeeper 2nd Class, 1946 until 1948, and was called back into service from 1951 until 1953. He received his degree in business administration from Jacksonville State University in May 1951, retired from Republic Steel as a production accountant in November 1992. He was a member of the Attalla Masonic Lodge No. 383 for 57 years. He was a member of the Etowah Touchdown Club, Exchange Club International and the Attalla First United Methodist Men's Club serving as treasurer. Jack was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Attalla since May 8, 1957, having served as Church treasurer since 1998 until retiring in 2012, a church usher and on the Administrative Board.
Honorary pallbearers are Attalla First United Methodist Men, James Graham, Candy Hill, Donald Oliver, Mack Vaughn, Willis "Sonny" Murdock and Attalla Masonic Lodge No. 383.
