Raymond Louis Whorton, 67, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
He was born to the late Richard and Lena Whorton in Gadsden, Ala., on July 7, 1945. He was a member of the Church of God in Christ, retired from both American Axle and General Motors in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Whorton enjoyed family gatherings, baking, gardening, sports and music.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna Jane Green Whorton; and son, Essex Whorton.
Survivors include his daughter, Celena Whorton of Hixson; sons, Raymond (Makeba) Whorton Jr., Lancing, Mich.; Justin (Yoreshea) Whorton, Detroit, Mich.; brothers, Richard Whorton, Gadsden, Ala.; Robert Whorton, Detroit, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and prior to the service at noon Monday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in LaFayette Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Homes–LaFayette Chapel.
