December 16, 1932 - July 14, 2014
On July 14, 2014, Reva Jean Ragan Bellamy passed away from her earthly home and entered the Kingdom of her Heavenly Father at the age of 81. She was born on Dec. 16, 1932, and was the oldest of nine children. She possessed a true servant's heart that was constant in her nurturing love and faith of others. She was strong in faith, determination and compassion and was very gifted in the art of cooking/baking and sewing.
Jean shaped the lives of everyone she encountered through her tireless Christian example, sweet and simple demeanor and infectious smile. Her signature gifts of joy and love will never be forgotten. Her greatest accomplishments were her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean was born on Lookout Mountain and was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was married for 60 years and raised two beloved daughters.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell M. Bellamy; daughter, Barbara Turner; parents, Bedford "Ted" and Marie Ragan; as well as sisters, Doris Statham and Marie Stone.
Survivors include beloved daughter, Deborah (Denson) Ragsdale; sister-in-law, Zera Mullendore; grandchildren, Kayla (Malley) Prater and Lori (Brian) Bendall; great-grandchildren, Mason, Morgan and Milean; as well as many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to honor her will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Etowah Memorial Chapel in Boaz. Officiating will be Bro. Lauil Thompson, Bro. Bill Drummons and Bro. Kenneth Lasseter. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will have visitation today with family to be received from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Denson Ragsdale, Malley Prater, Brian Bendall, Gayle Gilbert, Kevin Roberson and Ronnie Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will include her surviving brothers, James, Jerry, Lonnie and Malcolm "Buddy)"Ragan, as well as sisters, Dorothy Roden and Wanda Gilbert.
Our family is deeply grateful to all her special friends, family, staff and residents of Regency Pointe, as well as Dr. John Wilborn and other physicians for the care, love, prayers and support given to her. We also extend a heart-felt gratitude to the GRMC MICU staff, seventh-floor south staff and GRMC Hospice for the exceptional care and support provided to her and the family.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, Henceforth there is laid up for a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day." 2 Timothy 1:7-8
