Arthur Hugh Beggs, 82, of Gadsden, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crestwood Cemetery. The Revs. Bill Parker, Deborah Moon and Kenny Ott will officiate.
Anyone who met Papa Hugh loved him immediately because of his infectious love for life and God. He was quick with a joke, a smile and a hug. He was a true outdoorsman and sports fan, especially when it came to Auburn football, the Atlanta Braves and watching his grandchildren play sports. Hugh retired from Goodyear after 38 and a half years of service and was a member of Glencoe First United Methodist Church. He was active in the Gadsden Area Walk to Emmaus Community and a proud veteran of the Korean War.
Papa Hugh is survived by his wife, Judie Minshew Beggs; daughter, Dinah Williams and husband, Scott; son, Kenny Ott and wife, Cathi; son, Jay Beggs and wife, Christy; grandchildren, Dalton Williams, Cortner Quinn, Ann Dee Neal and husband, Joey, Jake Beggs and Kyndi Wilson, Chase Beggs, Morgan Moore and Peyton Moore; great-grandchildren, Emma Neal, Avery Neal, Holden Beggs and Keira Barns; sister, Cessna Rains; brother, Wayne Beggs; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glencoe First United Methodist Church, 315 Third Ave., Glencoe, AL 35905.
Pallbearers will be Alan Wilson, Jimmy Clontz, Bob Watson, Steve Millander, Wayne Crow, Don Richey, Charles Morgan and David Tidmore.
The family extends deep gratitude to the staff and administration of Amedisys Hospice, especially Scott Wigginton, Misty Allen, Janet Wilke and Matthew Rose, who are like our own family. Michelle, Michelle, Kathy and Brandi are much appreciated for their support.
