Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Alabama City, for Earnest Linwood "Toy" King, 79, Gadsden, who died June 13, 2012. The Rev. John M. Woods will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Watson and Sons Funeral Home directing.
Earnest L. King was born April 7, 1933, to the late Rev. Robert and Roberta Bennett King in Dallas County, Ala. In moving to Gadsden, Earnest met and married Bernice Hall, a God-fearing woman who shared his passion for gospel music. They were blessed with three kids, Earnestine, Jarice and Eric Lamont. Later, Earnest found joy again when he married another songbird, Willie Pearl Henderson. He performed with notable artists with his musical talent.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Pearl King; daughter, Jarice (Walter) Myles, of Clearwater, Fla.; son, Eric King, Detroit; stepdaughter, Eltoia Terry; and goddaughter, Carrie Hillary, Washington, D.C.; stepsons, Cassius Henderson and Vaughn Wilson of Detroit, Mich.; sisters, Ida Rea Williams, Leila Alma C. Baker, both of Gadsden; brother, Woodrow Wilson King, Montgomery; brothers-in-law, Larry Henderson and Vernon Henderson, Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Alabama City.
