Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude B. Gilchrist, 88, of Hokes Bluff, will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel in Gadsden. The Rev. Bill Parker will officiate, with burial to follow in Young's Chapel Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gilchrist was preceded in death by her husband, William H. "Bill" Gilchrist; parents, Frank and Mary Machacek; brothers, Frankie Machacek and Bill Machacek; and a sister, Georgie Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Jimmy) Usry of Hokes Bluff; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shannon (Shahzad) Rasool, Taybor, Miriam and Marea, all of Hokes Bluff, Kevin (Alexis) Usry, Jackson and Ava all of Hoover, and Scott Usry of Hokes Bluff; sisters, Edith Davidson of Temple, Texas, Dorothy (Arthur) Pala of Granger, Texas, Mary (Earl) Soudelier of Gatesville, Texas; sisters-in-law, Berniece Machacek of Georgetown, Texas, Mary Lee Machacek of Houston, Texas, Nelda Dyer of Hokes Bluff, and Johnnie Mae Studdard of Gadsden; special people, Nita and Johnny Lloyd of Roundrock, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Special thanks to Dr. Steve Sanders, Dr. Asif Kaleem, SICU and sixth-floor staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, and Amedisys Hospice.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the services on Friday at Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services in Gadsden.
